This is the personal blog of Duncan O’Neill, scribbler, web developer, one-time journalist, ‘net enthusiast, info-maniac.
There are a few other adjectives which apply, but they’ll become clearer later.
I first started a blog 15 years ago when it was original, maybe even fashionable. So why start another now?
About three weeks back I caught up with an old friend – back from the land of Oz . I’ve known him since .. forever, and we went to Uni ( college ) together in the 80s.
For reasons known only to him, he’s always been more than tolerant of my shiftless ways. It was great to catch up – reassuring and inspiring. We rambled for a couple of hours about kids, work, etc. When I explained that I was at a crossroads in the latter department, he suggested I go back to writing … a blog. It was in the back of my mind, so here we are.
I’m hoping a new vehicle for the old writing engine will blast some of the rust out. Get the viscous creative juices flowing again. The “do something” principle, with few expectations.
I’ll be writing non-fiction articles, short and longer. There’ll be a little earnestness, and some flippancy. Some of it will be trivial, but I hope not inane.
I can only write from experience and experiment. Along the way, we both might learn something.
If you can learn to share what you hope to communicate, written in a way that even a stranger can understand, you’ll not only improve your communication, you’ll learn to think more clearly as well.
The person who most benefits from your writing might be you.
